Setting Your Hope
I was delighted to open a Christmas present from my wife after getting home from a recent hospital stay. Though Christmas had past, the thoughtfulness and surprise were still present.
Opening the gift box, I discovered a new watch which I really needed. It was the one I had hoped for! But as delighted as I was with the gift, the watch still required setting the time, date and day.
Setting the time on a watch, the temperature on a thermostat, the timer on the oven...settings make all the difference. According to Scripture we are to recognize the importance of this principle. Circumstances and situations arise, but how we respond to them depends largely on how we choose to view them.
Paul wrote, "On Him we have set our hope, that He will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers." II Corinthians 1:10b
What's your hope set on? Are you setting your hope on His promises and character? Do you overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony or do sink beneath the weight of doubt and fear?
Like a fine watch, the setting makes all the difference in its usefulness. So today, with me, choose to set your hope in the Lord, keeping your eyes on Jesus our Waymaker!
"Being confident of this, that He Who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. " Philippians 1:6
