Aroma
"For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." II Corinthians 2:15
Have you ever been at a grocery store when fresh bread was just coming out of the oven? Or walked into a flower shop and enjoyed the fragrance of fresh roses? Even the scent of cut grass can remind us of a time gone by.
Paul writes about this amazing principle as he describes the "aroma of Christ". Jesus lives in His people and His love and joy are to be noticed. A sweet scent of salvation, as it were.
Gentle fragrances can be unnoticed when overpowered by strong odors. At times this world does have some pretty wretched smells like hatred, gossip, unforgiveness, etc.
But in the midst of all this we can bring the "aroma" that pleases the Lord.
Living to make Him known is our opportunity, even in a world of obstinance, oppression and opposition. Like roses we open up to bring a beautiful fragrance, no matter what the circumstances may be. Like fresh baked bread, our "aroma" can stir hunger pains in others to experience God's love.
Today you and I have been given so much to be grateful for. Let's remember to lift Him high and be a fragrance of life!
