Shepherd
"But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel." Matthew 2:6
Welcome to the season of Advent - a celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For the next four weeks prior to Christmas day, I want to focus on four different aspects of His identity. This week's topic: Our Shepherd
Scripture makes it clear that Jesus is the Great Shepherd. Born in Bethlehem, surrounded by flocks of sheep, Jesus birth was declared by Heavenly hosts to shepherds nearby.
Luke 2:8-18
How appropriate it is that shepherds were the first to hear of His arrival. Jesus had come to guide, protect and lay down His life for us who, like sheep, had gone astray.
-Jesus is the Good Shepherd Who lays down His life for the sheep. John 10:11
-Jesus is the Great Shepherd Who purchased the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant. Hebrews 13:20
-Jesus is the Shepherd and Guardian of our souls. I Peter 2:25
-Jesus is the Chief Shepherd Who comes again for His own with the reward of a crown of unfading glory. I Peter 5 :4
Yes, celebrate the Lord Who is our Shepherd! Because of Him, we shall not want; we will be saved; we need not fear and we will be forever with Him in glory!
Feels like Christmas is coming,
