Pastor's Pen 9.11.2022

Twenty years had passed.  A lot had happened since Joseph's brothers had sold him into bondage.  Now, seeking help for their very survival, they find themselves in the presence of the brother they had maligned. 

Joseph could have taken revenge or merely refused to come to their rescue.  But instead, he models the way of the Lord. Perceiving God's purpose, Joseph forgives them and offers a plan for the very survival of the nation of Israel. 

Setting in motion a plan to be reunited with his father Jacob, a future became no longer a possibility, but a reality.  It only took one to stop the destructive actions and initiate a reconciliation.   

As Paul would write regarding our responsibility: "As much as it depends on you, live peaceably with all men." See Romans 12:18

Their tearful reconciliation brought the realization the bridge building is better than bitter battles.  In retrospect, Joseph declared, "...for God sent me before you to preserve life."  Genesis 45:4-5

May the retrospective view of the Holy Spirit give us an understanding of the importance of restoration and insight into the part we play in it!

Where possible, go and reconcile...
